The agency operates three training facilities; the Mountain Training Facility in Crossnore, the Stan Adams Training Facility in Chatham County and the Ralph Winkworth Forestry Center in Kinston. One location offers overnight accommodations, dining services and classroom environments with internet access and multimedia capabilities.

The National Advanced Fire & Resource Institute (NAFRI) was originally established as the National Fire Training Center at the Marana Air Park(now Pinal Air Park) in February 1967. It was created by the Washington Office, US Forest Service Fire and Aviation, to plan, develop and deliver the annual national fire management training program.
The PFTC is headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida. Training locations are dispersed throughout Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
