Are there any class 1 fire departments in the US?
The ISO and their “Class 1 Fire Dept” rating lost a lot of credibility after Charleston. Off the top of my head… Unless something has changed very recently, like in the last year, those are all current Class 1’s in the US.
What do you think about the Class 1 rating for firefighters?
As a firefighter who worked for a Class 1 Department, and this is my own opinion, the Class 1 rating is just a load of BS. I never saw any benefits from it to the firefighters and in fact, in order to fufill some of the requirements, it became a nuisance.

An ISO Class 1 fire department is one that provides excellent fire protection based upon an evaluation by the Insurance Services Office, a New Jersey-based for-profit company that provides these ratings. ISO sells the information it collects to insurance companies, which may use these ratings to determine property insurance rates.
